The Vine and the Branches

We began our journey of understanding the Holy Spirit by looking at what Jesus shared the night before his crucifixion. Now we return to that same conversation to hear his wisdom about being fruitful as a Christian.

Read John 15:1-8.

• It’s clear from this passage that God wants us to be fruitful. What do you think the fruit of God looks like in our lives?

• Verse 2 says God prunes us to make us more fruitful. How do you feel about God pruning your life?

• Verses 4 and 5 say that without Jesus we can do nothing. But if we remain in him, we can’t help but be fruitful. What do you think Jesus means by remaining in him?

 

Regarding that last question above, remaining in Christ is fundamentally about building a great relationship with Jesus. This involves the work of the Holy Spirit which we have thought about already. But there are four key things alongside that which help us to know Christ. It’s to these we now turn.
