Prayer Buddies

For us to be successful in sharing our faith, we need to commit to praying for both these people and the general networks they’re in. A commitment of 10-20 minutes each day in prayer is the backbone of these studies.

Often we need encouragement and reminding about this, so we’re going to have prayer buddies to help us keep these up each day. You’ll pray each day for your buddy, their people and networks, as well as for your own. You’ll want to text each other daily to encourage one another to keep praying.

Step 1 – Buddy up

If you’re going through these studies with one other person, give each other a high five. You already have a prayer buddy sorted! But if you are doing these studies in a small group, choose and divide up into prayer buddies among yourselves.

Step 2 – Share your people

Now share with that person what your networks are and who the people are on your list. You’ll need to write down what your buddy shares with you so you can remember them in prayer during the week too.

Step 3 – Regular encouragement

Discuss with each other when you think the best time of the day is for you to be praying. Agree to text one another encouragements and reminders to keep this up daily throughout the week.

Kim attended the Relational Evangelism course after being a Christian for three years. Meeting a small group of Christians keen to share Jesus with their friends and family once a week for a season was something that she did not expect to enjoy as much as she did.

Each week she was encouraged to step out in faith through the power of prayer. It led to some incredible encounters with people she did not expect to talk to about spiritual things. Right from the outset prayer was emphasised. Each day she shared her prayer requests with her prayer buddy, and vice versa. It made a huge difference in pushing her to pray and seek faith-fuelled opportunities.

Not long into the first week, she was not only sharing prayer requests with her prayer buddy, but also sharing stories of how God was answering those prayers; Kim had three spiritual conversations that week with her friends. God was at work. The feeling of knowing that God answers prayer was so affirming and amazing.
