Our Condition

We are all sinful

For most people, it goes without saying that we are imperfect. But what does the Bible mean when it says that we are sinful?

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard."

  • Do you agree that everyone is sinful?

The Deeper Issue

Throughout history, humans have opted to live how we want instead of trusting God’s commands and that he cares for us.

Rather than going to God to give us meaning, satisfaction, and purpose in life, we tend to go to created things instead—romantic relationships, achievements, wealth, etc.

This rejection of God and the building of our lives around anything else is what the Bible calls sin.

  • Based on this explanation, where do you see sin in your own life?
“Sin isnʼt only doing bad things; it’s more fundamentally making good things into ultimate things. Sin is building your life and meaning on anything, even a very good thing, more than on God. Whatever we build our life on will drive us and enslave us. Sin is primarily… treating something or someone who is not God as God.”
