Sin Has Consequences

If God’s standards are about humans living the best way possible, then there will be consequences if we break his standards and reject his rule.

  • What could be some social, physical or mental consequences of sin?

When you think about it, sin negatively impacts all aspects of life. It drives everything from abuse to racism to anxiety.

While sin has all kinds of short-term effects, the Bible also speaks candidly about its long-term consequences for us.

"For the wages of sin is death..."

  • Why might sin cause death?

“Death” means separation. Physical death is the point when our bodies and spirits are separated. This verse refers to spiritual death, which is our spirits being separated from God.

If our sin is not removed:

  • we will miss out on the relationship with God that he wants to give us now
  • we miss out on eternal life with God in the future
  • we remain guilty before God because of our sin. Unless we receive Jesus’ sacrifice for our sin, we will pay the penalty for them ourselves in the place the Bible calls hell
