You just started the amazing journey of knowing God!
But it is a journey, and you’re not meant to do it alone. There are things to learn to help you along the way. Make a time together to begin the Follow conversations, where we cover the essentials of how to journey well with Jesus.
If you asked Jesus into your life as Saviour and Lord, many things have happened including:
You can know that Jesus is in your life because God has promised and he can be trusted.
“And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.” – 1 John 5:11-13
Thank God often that Jesus is in your life, and that he will never leave you (Romans 8:38-39).
You can know that the Spirit of Christ lives in you and that you have eternal life from the moment you invited Jesus into your life, because this is what he has promised.
Do not depend on how you feel. We rely on God and his promises in the Bible more than our feelings. Although feelings are valid and important, they aren’t the most reliable indicators of what is true. A follower of Jesus lives by trusting in the reliability of God himself and what he has said.
To be transported by a plane, we must put our trust in the construction of the plane and skill of the pilot. Our feelings do not influence the fact that the plane will carry us.
In the same way we can rely on God and trust what he has promised in the Bible and not depend on the way we feel.
Our relationship with Jesus grows as we trust him with every detail of our lives. This trust is developed as we:
G et to know God by reading the Bible daily (2 Timothy 3:14-17). Start with the gospel of John or Mark.
R espond to God in prayer (Philippians 4:6)
O bey God moment by moment (Luke 6:46-49)
W alk in the power of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 3:14-21, 5:18)
T ell others about Jesus through our life and words (Matthew 28:18-20, 2 Corinthians 5:17-20, Ephesians 4:1)
H ave fellowship with other Christians (Hebrews 10:25, Acts 2:42-47). Find a church where Jesus is worshipped and the Bible is taught.
