Our Struggle With Sin

Maybe you know what it’s like to want to live God’s way, but you keep finding yourself caught up in cycles of sin. If so, you’re not alone.

Read Romans 7:14-21.

  • Can you see this in your life? Describe how you see your sinful nature at work in you.

The good news is the Holy Spirit is given to help us in our struggle with our sinful nature.

Read Romans 8:1-13.

  • What gives you hope from this passage regarding your struggle with sin?
  • What are the implications of verses 5-8 about trying to please God without the Spirit?
  • What do verses 10-11 tell us about the power at work in us through the Spirit?
  • How do verses 12-13 encourage us to live in light of these things?
“Soon after becoming a Christian, I began to experience the Holy Spirit address areas in my life that needed to change—sexual impurity, drunkenness, drug use, etc. After repenting of these, it was incredible how God used my transformation to reach my girlfriend at the time and brought her to know him (now she’s my wife). I'm still a long way off, and there will always be things to repent of. But the most important thing I've learned is to never do it alone, but in the power of the Spirit.”
