Three Important Questions

We now want to use the idea of Spiritual Breathing to help us pray together for God’s Spirit to fill us. But in light of what Spiritual Breathing is, we must ask ourselves three very important questions first. Take your time to answer these questions sincerely. When you’re ready, click the button below for some tips on how to pray.

  1. Am I ready to acknowledge and confess all my known sin? (1 John 1:9)
  2. Am I ready to turn away from these sins and live my life in obedience to Jesus? (1 John 2:3-6)
  3. Do I believe God will answer my prayer and fill me with his Spirit according to his word? (1 John 5:14-15)

Keep At It!

Praying to be filled with the Spirit is a continual thing. It’s not once and for all. Each new day we need God to empower us afresh. Spiritual Breathing is a tool we share with you in the hope that it might become a habit to get into rather than a thing to do just here.

  • What might it look like for you to practice Spiritual Breathing by yourself each day before we meet next time?

Remember prayer is simply talking to God. You’re sharing your thoughts with him. There’s no right or wrong words to say or ways to do it. Share what’s in your mind and heart.

Follow the outline of Spiritual Breathing.

  • Acknowledge your sins to God and ask his forgiveness from it.
  • Tell him of your desire to turn from these sins and to walk in obedience to him.
  • Then ask God to fill you with his power through the Holy Spirit, that you might walk free from these sins and live in a pleasing way to God.

You can take as much time as you like over this. Don’t feel hurried about it. God loves it when his people come to him in prayer. It’s also a great idea to pray for one another and not just yourself. God’s people are often encouraged when they pray together.
