What Do You Mean?

You’ve got your Bible open, ready to read. “God, help me understand what I’m reading today,” you pray. What next? 

Allow the Bible to speak for itself. After all, God has given us his Holy Spirit to help us understand it. Give it a read and the Spirit might cause you to linger on certain words. He might remind you of other parts of the Bible that you’ve read before. Without God’s Spirit, we can’t have significant understanding. We can’t fully understand what’s true by ourselves.

Whether or not the passage makes sense at first glance, one of the wisest things we can do is look into its context.
